Who are “The FE Guys”?

Steve Slusarenko and Brent Carson are “The FE Guys”.  We live in Surrey, British Columbia.  Surrey is about 20 miles southeast the seaport city of Vancouver, and 10 miles north of the US border at Blaine, WA.

Why we are called “The FE Guys”

We have more than a little affection for the early big block Ford engines, which were built from 1958 through the early 1970’s in passenger cars and until about 1976 in light trucks.  These engines are known as the “Ford Edsel” family (hence FE) and are comprised of the 332, 352, 361 (Edsel), 390, 406, 410, 427, and 428 cubic inch displacement engines in passenger cars and 330, 359, 360, 361, 389, and 391 cubic inch displacements in trucks.  These engines are legendary, and were available from the factory ranging from 250 to 425 horsepower (the very limited production 427 SOHC producing an astounding 657 horsepower @ 7500 rpm was not available in a regular production vehicle but were ordered for purpose-built factory race cars and available “over the counter” for other racers wanting a little more “Power by Ford”).

In scouring the countryside looking for bits and pieces of collectible cars, especially the FE engine parts, we have been tagged “The FE Guys” by our many friends and especially those friends that we do business with.

The above is a photo of a 428 cubic inch FE engine with factory cast iron headers

Here is another FE engine.  It is a stroked 427 sideoiler in racing trim with the valve covers and plug wires removed.  This engine is in the black 7 Litre Galaxie below.

Our “FE Powered” Ford Car Collection

1965 Galaxie 500XL Convertible 390 CID

I found in this Los Angeles built car in Los Angeles with original California black plates.  This car is getting a new interior and new paint this winter.

1965 Galaxie 500XL R-Code Hardtop 427 CID

I found this 48,000 original mile, 427 powered, 4 speed car last year in Oklahoma with 1971 Texas plates still on it...  This car is currently undergoing a “frame-off” restoration.  Grin from ear to ear - Who me?

1966 Galaxie 500 390 CID

A bench seat 390 powered 4 speed I found in North Carolina.

1966 7 Litre Galaxie 427 CID

Big bad and black 600 HP stroked 427-powered car I purchased from a fellow who was racing it in New Jersey.  It weighs a svelte 4,080 pounds, but does the ¼ mile in the very low 12’s.  Notice the smile…

1966 7 Litre Galaxie 428 CID

A nicely optioned completely stock car with power windows, power door locks, convenience group and cruise control I just purchased from a fellow in Medicine Hat, Alberta.  It had less than 50,000 miles on it, and it shows.  Ignore the GM in the background as it is now supplanted by a new F150 4X4…

1966 7 Litre Galaxie 4 speed Hardtop 428 CID – not shown

An Emberglow project car that needs a complete restoration including some significant body damage repair.

1966 428 CID Q-code 500XL 4 speed Convertible Galaxie

Another project car that needs a complete restoration.  I purchased this one from a fellow Galaxie Club of Canada member who has a beautiful 4 speed 7 Litre Hardtop.

Our Other Fords

1956 Ford Fairlane Victoria 2 Door Hardtop 312 CID

This puppy has 28,000 original miles on it, and is an original P-code 312 car that just loves to cruise…  I drove this one home from New Mexico where I had purchased it from a retired gentleman with 14 beautiful cars in his collection.

1967 Ford Mustang Coupe 289 CID

A black on black 289 automatic car that is really a lot of fun to drive…

2004 Ford F-150 4X4 5.4L

Okay, so I'm spoiled., but I really needed something to tow the boat...

2005 Ford Mustang GT 4.6L

Okay, so I'm really spoiled...

FE Guys Profiled

Steve Slusarenko is a native Vancouverite, who was raised in Powell River, BC.  Steve inherited the “Old Ford habit” from his Father, Stan, who was also a certified “Ford Nut”.  Steve is a Professional Project Manager and Management Consultant who travels all over North America helping large corporations with their SAP Project Systems Implementations and Project Management Training.  It is on the weekends off at various client sites that Steve uncovers these wonderful old cars, sometimes languishing in a field, that are brought home to BC for addition to the collection.  Steve is married to Brent’s mom, Raejoan, who figures that never gets to see him because he is really married to his cars - really…

Brent Carson, who is also a native (Greater) Vancouverite, is a Certified Professional Network Administrator who would now rather track down old car parts than troubleshoot a LAN, and his interpretation of network development is talking it up with Wrecking Yard Owners and Tow Truck Operators…  He used to lust after Mazda RX-7’s, but now (thankfully - in Steve’s view) he would rather shake things up with a serious 428 in an early Fastback Mustang…
